4/6/08 10:18 - West Ealing
New flat is nice. But the best thing is location - I love the area, shops, restaurants - finally I feel like London again. Lots of packing and un-packing, definitely too much goods collected since September - no idea when did we buy it all O_o
Wild and pretty garden just outside with rich wildlife + small patio. Also Majestic just few meters away (a wine wholesaler) and very close - Waitrose, Carluccio's, M&S, absolutely fantastic Iranian shop with baskets filled with loads of dried fruits and nuts, O'Neill's (yes the Irish pub chain with red Guinness) and My Old Dutch (and I should probably mention polish pub "Pan Tadeusz" ^^;) . And, very similar to Archway, huge store with Cyprian (and polish) goods - all Mediterranean stuff like olives, white cheeses, bakery, vine leaves - absolutely fantastic.
As everywhere in London, we have planes flying above our heads all the time (very low). Also we hear trains passing by just street away - and I like both things a lot (but take a note that trains in London are quiet and usually super fast).
The bad thing is the flat is dark and humid. When it is raining outside (just like now and probably for the rest of the June...) it is impossible to dry the laundry inside. So de-humidor* is on top of wishlist (but recently it is out of stock, popular in London, huh...). It makes me breathe better however we must be very careful to not let the mould step in.
We ordered cheap bikes in Woolworths, to be collected on Saturday. We could probably afford something better (even if it usually means £250 instead of £50) but afaik London is not the safest place to keep your bike on the street and overall I decided it is too risky. Now we need a basket and casks and we are ready to cycle to work.
Because of the specific "microclimate" in the flat it looks like the herbs are growing well on the windowsill. I try to cultivate basil, mint and coriander and if that works well I will buy thyme, oregano, marjoram, bay leaves and chili - all herbs we use in cooking.
* It is kinda funny, because in Poland we had to buy humidor because the air was so dry ^^;
