14/4/08 10:44 - Cheques
A cheque book is a funny thing, really. Who could guess those are still in use ? One of this little, old-fashioned things in Britain that I like.
My memories of cheque book must have 20 years - my mum had one, lengthwise booklet and back then, it was a sign of real adulthood for me, along with a bank account, bottle of Johnny Walker in stylish cupboard and red box Marlboro ;) Haven't you ever dreamt about writing on a stylish cheque with gold plated nib Pelican pen ? :D
We use cheques quite rarely, but they are very handful when booking B&Bs - instead of money transfer or ready cash we post one or turn it in after a visit. It can come in handy when you find yourself in the middle of a countryside without any cashmashine around, too. Unfortunately there are people who believe cheques should be dropped for now, but I hope it won't happen in the near future - it makes traveler's life much easier, really.
